| Is the app free? | Yes, the kulpa app is free for public users. You can download the app from your app store or you can use it on a computer via any standard web browser. | |
| What type of evidence can I upload? | You can upload any file of any size. You might want to consider uploading photos, videos, CCTV, DashCam, audio recordings, social media, screenshots, messages, emails, documents or any other file. | |
| How does kulpa’s technology ensure the files I upload are legally admissible? | Kulpa’s proprietary technology, certified processes, metadata capture, and patented features ensure that evidence uploaded to and shared through Kulpa is verified, authenticated and legally admissible. The platform preserves original file formats, captures provenance data, and will generate supporting evidential documentation to make files ready for formal proceedings. Kulpa’s technology and certifications for internationally recognised standards including ISO 27001 and BS 10008, support legal admissibility by ensuring that evidence: (1) Has not been altered or edited (photos, messages, audio, etc. are in their original form). (2) Can be verified with clear provenance (what it is, where it came from, and when). (3) Is stored securely (so no one can claim it was tampered with). The remaining legal tests — relevance and lawful collection — remain your responsibility. But generally, individuals may collect evidence of what happens to them, around them, or involving them; what may not be lawful includes, for example, recording someone in a bathroom; a circumstance where they have a reasonable expectation of privacy. Essentially files shared via kulpa represent best evidence. The files meet with the highest evidential standards and levels of integrity, making it very difficult to dispute, challenge or argue against it. | |
| What’s the advantage of using the in-app option to take photographs of any physical damage or physical injuries? | Kulpa’s proprietary in-app technology enables anyone with a smart phone and a standard size card (a driving licence, ID card, Membership card, Loyalty card, Travelcard, etc.) to take scaled forensic imagery – for example of any physical damage or physical injuries. The applied scale is accurate to a millimetre, making these images forensic in nature. - Forensic evidence is the best evidence and can be analysed by an expert, if required. Images you take with the in-app camera will be immediately uploaded to your kulpa cloud and will not appear on your phones camera-roll. | |
| Why should I upload medical records | Some incidents may have resulted in an injury, either physically or mentally. Kulpa enables you to upload the relevant medical records. It’s about improving data by consent and limiting data transfer to only that which is relevant. | |
| What’s the benefit of uploading and sharing my files (evidence) via kulpa? | Kulpa’s technology, certified processes, metadata capture, and patented features ensure that evidence uploaded to and shared through Kulpa is verified, authenticated and legally admissible. When you choose to share your files, the platform will automatically, exhibit your data and bundle your evidence into a package that ensures it can be immediately used in a legal process. | |
| Who can I share my data with? | Anyone you choose. You’re always in control. Share your evidence with anyone you choose. Just select “Share with someone else,” enter their email and phone number, and securely send your encrypted file. We also connect you with organisations you may want to share your evidence with. For example, if your incident is a crime and occurred within the jurisdiction of a connected police force that supports direct-reporting, you’ll see an in-app option to share with them. Other organisations will be available, depending on the location of the incident. Any person or organisation you share your data with will receive an exhibited, evidential bundle, which can be immediately used in a legal process, be it civil or criminal. | |
| Can I invite other people to contribute evidence to my file? | Yes, use the “+ add contributor” button in the relevant incident file. What they will be able to see and contribute will depend on the capacity/role you invite them in – the lowest level of access is ‘witness’. | |
| How secure is kulpa? | Highly secure. kulpa is certified by a UKAS accredited certification body, the British Standards Institute (BSI) Our certification for ISO27001:2022 means that the system preserves the confidentiality, integrity, availability and authenticity of all information. Our certification for BS10008:2020 means that data captured with, or uploaded to, the platform, holds evidential weight, is legally admissible, and able to support a legal process if and when required. The standard is based on the verification and authentication of Electronically Stored Information (ESI) making it trustworthy and robust. Kulpa has to pass an annual external audit from BSI in order to maintain these certificates. | |
| Where does kulpa store my data? | We store your data on Microsoft Azure servers. Microsoft Azure servers and data centres are highly accredited, maintaining one of the broadest compliance portfolios in the cloud industry including certifications for ISO 27001, 27017 and 27108. | If I am sharing my evidence with the police, will kulpa reduce the need for them to seize and download my entire phone or computer? | Yes, it should. Traditionally in order to obtain the original file (known if digital forensics as the native file) and the associated metadata, a full forensic mobile phone extraction was required. However, kulpa’s technology enables our users (you) to capture and transfer native files, together with their metadata via the kulpa app. Therefore, policing can obtain the evidence it needs, at the consent of the kulpa user (you, when you choose to share it), without ever needing to seize or interact with your mobile device (mobile phone or computer). Kulpa empowers you, to provide the police with, immediately usable, exhibited, authenticated, verified, digital forensic evidence. When you share your evidence via kulpa, the platform will package and exhibit it, so that it can be immediately used in interview and in formal legal proceedings. | |
